‘Tui Tuia ō Whakapapa’ - Huia ft Sean Richards. ‘Tui Tui ō Whakapa’ is about honouring and remembering where you are from.
‘Whaka te Awa, Whaka te Maunga - to the river, to the mountain’.
This waiata (song) is a message from māmā to tamariki, but also, a universal message of remembering your roots. In te āo Māori, Māori culture, our tīpuna/ancestors are with us and we draw strength from that connection. This liquid DNB tune is full of smooth synths and big subs, reminiscent of Sean Richards's style as he moves into another artist's name.
Possibly the only female Māori bilingual DnB artist, Huia is back with a new song, re-working vocals, from ‘Tui Tuia’. ‘Whaka te Awa, Whaka te Maunga - to the river, to the mountain’. This waiata is part of the Waiata Anthems collective, where Huia is a featured artist with ‘Tui Tuia ō Whakapapa’ and has some big summer events coming up on the horizon.
Her last liquid DnB tune with Sean Richards ‘Punakaiki’ was on the biggest West Coast blog with over 80,000 followers and on 4ZZZ DNB Show (Brisbane - Aus). She has released 5 DNB tunes to date, with Baitercell (has a world #1) and on her E.P. ‘Āta’ and ‘Āio’. From ambient electro to reggaeton, she has supported Deep Forest and Gaudi at AUM festival as a proud bilingual artist.
Huia’s tune ‘Tukua Te Kūata, Love Now’, with an electro RnB vibe, charted on the NZ Hot Charts at #14, Iwi charts at #12, featured on 15 playlists and has had spins all around the world and sits at 20,000 plays. This includes a Canadian exclusive on ‘CBC’s Reclaimed’ and also on Kiwi Canal Blog (France). Also heard through Aotearoa and Australia, hitting #12 on Ethnoclouds world charts and features on RNZ, First Song and iwi stations. ‘Marama La Luna’ featured alongside Lorde on ‘Apple Music New Daily’ release and is on the ‘Te Reo Māori’ charts, sitting at 50,000 spins.
